Chinese startup Z.ai’s GLM-5.3 model has reached the top of the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index for open models, matching Kimi K3, while delivering major performance gains in agentic tasks and competitive pricing. GLM-5.3 scores 60 points on the index, seven more than GLM-5.2, and achieves a strong Elo rating on the GDPval-AA v2 benchmark. Artificial Analysis estimates per-task costs below leading rival Kimi K3’s pricing. Although available through Z.ai’s API, public release of GLM-5.3’s open weights is postponed by about two weeks as the company implements stricter safeguards and grants fuller access only to selected security-focused partners.
This update represents a notable development in the Ai sector. Organizations and founders tracking this space should evaluate potential strategic and technical implications on their operations.
