Sui announced it is adopting two NIST-approved post-quantum signature schemes, ML-DSA-65 and SLH-DSA-SHA2-128s, allowing blockchain accounts and smart contract vaults to transition to quantum-safe cryptographic keys. The move follows growing concern that future quantum computers could derive private keys from publicly exposed onchain keys, undermining traditional elliptic-curve cryptography and enabling harvest-now-forge-later attacks once sufficient quantum hardware exists. Sui will roll out quantum-safe vaults to Mainnet this year, with native ML-DSA-65 accounts on Testnet by year-end and Mainnet in early 2027, as audits, tooling updates, and user opt-in migrations proceed.
This update represents a notable development in the Crypto sector. Organizations and founders tracking this space should evaluate potential strategic and technical implications on their operations.
