Alibaba releases Qwen3.8-Max 2.4T MoE model
Alibaba has released Qwen3.8-Max, described as its largest and most capable AI model so far, claiming performance comparable to Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 and systems from OpenAI and Chinese rival Moonshot AI. Announced in a company blog post after an earlier preview, Qwen3.8-Max is being made widely available. Internal tests and rankings on crowdsourced comparison site Arena.AI place it close to, and sometimes above, Fable 5 on benchmarks. The model reportedly uses 2.4 trillion parameters, underscoring China’s rapid AI progress. Its strong leaderboard position intensifies US–China competition and fuels ongoing debates in Washington and Silicon Valley over safety and technological leadership.
