New Jersey sues Amazon over delivery contractors
New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Amazon, alleging the company exploits its power over third-party delivery contractors to suppress competition, depress wages and create harsh working conditions for drivers. The complaint focuses on Amazon’s delivery service partner program, launched in 2018, which uses thousands of small contractors for last-mile deliveries. Regulators and lawmakers have increasingly questioned whether this model undermines labor standards and fair competition. New Jersey argues Amazon’s restrictions on unionization, driver poaching and labor mobility give it unlawful monopsony power in the delivery labor market. Amazon has not yet responded publicly, and the case could shape future gig-work regulation.
