Crypto exploits siphon $1.1B in H1
Hackers drained a record $1.1 billion from cryptocurrency protocols in 212 onchain exploits during the first half of 2026, according to blockchain security firm Blockaid’s newly released investigative report. North Korea-linked groups accounted for about $609 million, with major breaches at KelpDAO and Drift Protocol. Ethereum and Solana-based platforms suffered the largest network-level losses, totaling roughly $658 million combined over the period. Blockaid notes exploit frequency surged from January to June, driven mainly by operational security lapses like privileged key misuse. Emerging threats include prompt injection attacks on AI agents and novel wallet delegation exploits bypassing established defenses.
