Alibaba launches Qwen3.8-Max 2.4Trillion parameter model
Alibaba launched its Qwen3.8-Max AI model, a 2.4-trillion-parameter system with 95 billion active parameters, through QwenCloud, and plans to release open weights next week. Its stock jumped on both New York and Hong Kong exchanges. The model supports a 1-million-token context window and multimodal understanding, handling long documents, extended video, coding tasks, and autonomous software development. Benchmark results show performance comparable to Anthropic’s Fable 5, outperforming it on several multimodal and document tests. Open-sourcing Qwen3.8-Max at this scale and launching the QwenWork productivity platform deepen Alibaba’s AI strategy, backed by a pledged 380-billion-yuan cloud and AI infrastructure investment, and intensify competition with Chinese workplace and model providers.
